Second Shooting Reported at Kapil Sharma’s Canada Café, Gang Link Suspected.
Comedian Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey, British Columbia, was targeted in a shooting early Thursday morning — the second such incident at the venue in less than a month.
Shots were fired at Kap’s Café, owned by Sharma and his wife Ginni Chatrath, around 4:40 am on August 7. Surrey Police said the gunfire caused damage to the building’s windows, but no injuries were reported.
The café was previously attacked on July 10. Authorities suspect both incidents are linked to the Laddi gang, affiliated with the banned Khalistani terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
The gang’s alleged leader, Harjit Singh Laddi, is a fugitive wanted in India for multiple terror-related charges. He is believed to be involved in a string of attacks targeting Hindu leaders and pro-India individuals. Laddi and his associate, Kulbeer Singh (alias Sidhu), are also accused of orchestrating the April 13 assassination of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Prabhakar in Punjab’s Rupnagar district.
Indian authorities have offered a reward of ₹10 lakh for credible information leading to Laddi’s capture. In 2023, a Babbar Khalsa module tied to him was busted in Ludhiana.
Just days before the latest attack, Surrey Mayor Brenda Lock and local police officials visited the café in a public show of support. Kapil Sharma posted a video of the gathering on Instagram, captioned: “United we stand against violence.”
Surrey Police have launched an investigation into the August 7 shooting and are reviewing CCTV footage. The motive remains under investigation, but officials are treating it as a targeted act.
