Dharmasthala Case Takes Dramatic Turn: Whistleblower Arrested for False Claims.

The Dharmasthala “mass burial” case in Karnataka has taken a dramatic twist, with the police arresting the complainant who had alleged mass rapes and murders in a village. Officials stated that the complainant, CN Chinnayya alias Chenna, was found to have given false and fabricated statements under oath.

Chenna, previously referred to as the “masked man” for keeping his identity hidden, had sought witness protection while claiming to be a whistleblower in a case involving alleged mass murders and burials. Although he initially recorded a statement with the magistrate, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) doubted his claims. Cross-questioning revealed inconsistencies, leading the SIT to conclude he had lied. His witness protection was revoked, and he was arrested for perjury. Visuals from the morning showed Chenna undergoing a medical checkup before being produced in court.

In a related development, Sujata Bhat, a woman who had claimed her daughter Ananya Bhat—an alleged MBBS student—had gone missing in Dharmasthala, has retracted her statement. She told a local YouTube channel that Ananya never existed and alleged she had been coerced into making the initial claim.

The Dharmasthala controversy erupted in July when Chenna approached a police station with a skull, claiming he had helped bury hundreds of bodies, including young women who were allegedly sexually assaulted. The allegations had triggered a political flashpoint, with the BJP accusing the Congress of spreading misinformation about the temple town, while the Congress accused the BJP of seeking political mileage from the controversy.
