US Vice President JD Vance has insisted that President Donald Trump is in “incredibly good health” and full of energy, even as he acknowledged that part of his own role requires being ready to take over if the unexpected happens.
Vance described Trump as a tireless leader who “works late at night and early in the morning,” adding: “I feel very confident the president is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people.”
At the same time, he admitted that the vice presidency comes with an unavoidable responsibility — being prepared for worst-case scenarios. Asked if he could step in as commander-in-chief, Vance replied:
“I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days. If there’s a terrible tragedy, I’m ready.”
The interview ranged beyond Trump’s health. Vance defended his heated exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, weighed in on the media frenzy around the Taylor Swift–Travis Kelce engagement, and also addressed Trump’s controversial move to oust a Federal Reserve governor.
Still, the question of the president’s condition prompted his strongest words. “The president is in incredibly good health, and he has incredible energy,” Vance reiterated, stressing that Trump remains fit to complete his term.
