Yamuna Breaches Danger Mark, Floodwaters Enter Delhi Homes; Gurugram Shuts Schools, Offices Amid Rain Alert.

The flood threat in Delhi escalated on Tuesday as the Yamuna river breached its banks in Yamuna Bazaar, with water entering residential colonies and forcing families to move into relief camps.

At 6 am, the Yamuna’s water level stood at 205.68 metres — above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. Officials warned it could rise further to around 206.50 metres by 5 pm. Continuous release of water from the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana has heightened the risk of flooding in low-lying areas of the capital. An alert has been issued for vulnerable zones.

The District Magistrate of Shahdara announced that traffic movement on Loha Pul will be halted from 5 pm onwards due to rising waters. Meanwhile, the IMD forecast a cloudy sky with moderate rain in Delhi, with temperatures expected to range between 22°C and 31°C.

Gurugram Hit by Heavy Rain, Waterlogging
In Gurugram, heavy downpours on Monday crippled normal life, with over 100 mm of rainfall recorded between 3 pm and 7 pm. Severe waterlogging led to traffic snarls across the city, with major stretches near Hero Honda Chowk, Patel Nagar, and Signature Bridge inundated.

The service lane of the Dwarka Expressway had to be closed after rainwater overwhelmed its drainage system. The expressway, which links Delhi’s Dwarka to Kherki Daula and several Gurugram sectors, was battered by intense rainfall for over three hours.

Authorities have issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain on September 2. The District Disaster Management Authority has directed schools to shift to online classes and asked private offices to implement work-from-home arrangements on Tuesday.
