Heavy Rain Triggers Massive Landslide Near Nathpa Dam in Himachal’s Kinnaur.
A massive landslide was triggered by heavy rain near the Nathpa Dam in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, officials reported. Video footage shared by PTI shows debris tumbling down the hill as a large section of the slope gave way.
The landslide, which stretched nearly 200 metres, occurred while five people were present at the site. Fortunately, all five are safe, and no injuries were reported. The incident has disrupted traffic on National Highway 5, and authorities have asked locals to avoid the area.
Monsoon rains have caused widespread damage across Himachal. In Kullu’s Akhara Bazaar, a landslide was reported on September 5, while another earlier on September 4 buried 10 people and three houses, prompting a rescue operation by the NDRF and local police.
The heavy rains have also affected air travel, with about 40% of flights at Kangra Airport canceled over the past two months. According to the State Disaster Management Authority, the monsoon has disrupted 1,087 roads, 2,838 power lines, and 509 water supply schemes.
Since June 20, 2025, 360 deaths have been reported in the state due to rain-related incidents including landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, and lightning strikes, along with 163 road accident fatalities during the same period.
