Former Indian wicketkeeper Saba Karim has urged the Indian women’s cricket team to prepare thoroughly ahead of their Women’s World Cup clash against Pakistan on Sunday, October 5
At R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. While acknowledging India’s overall superiority, Karim highlighted a few key Pakistan players who could challenge the team.
Key Pakistan Players to Watch
Karim pointed out Sidra Amin and captain Fatima Sana as potential threats. Amin entered the World Cup with six ODI hundreds, including two consecutive centuries against South Africa. Although she was dismissed by Bangladesh’s Marufa Akter in the first over of her last game, her prior performances make her a batter to watch.
Fatima Sana, who recently succeeded Nida Dar as Pakistan’s captain ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup, has also shown improved performances, according to Karim.
“Not a threat, but worthy opponents. Once you get onto the field, you can’t take any team lightly. India would be well advised to do their homework, and I’m sure they will,” Karim said during a Media Day hosted by JioStar.
Spinners Could Pose Problems
Karim stressed that India should also focus on Pakistan’s spin attack, specifically Nashra Sandhu, who recently took a six-wicket haul against South Africa, as well as Rameen Shamim and Sadia Iqbal, the latter having once been the No.1 T20I bowler.
“These two players stand out, and Pakistan is likely to rely heavily on their spinners. India needs to work out a plan to counter that. Overall, India looks far superior, but thorough preparation is essential,” Karim added.
India Enter as Favourites
India has won all 11 of its ODIs against Pakistan and started their World Cup campaign with a win over Sri Lanka, while Pakistan suffered a seven-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in Colombo. Despite being favourites, Karim emphasized that India must do their homework to maintain their dominance in this marquee clash.
