Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty in New Delhi on Friday and commended Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for his pivotal role in facilitating the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

PM Modi lauded Egypt’s “constructive diplomacy” in brokering peace between Israel and Hamas, describing it as a crucial step toward stability in the Middle East. He expressed optimism that the truce would open the door to lasting peace and humanitarian relief in the conflict-hit region.

Dr Abdelatty briefed the Prime Minister on the outcomes of the first India–Egypt Strategic Dialogue, which focused on enhancing cooperation in defence, trade, energy, and emerging technologies. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and expanding people-to-people connections.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote: “Pleased to receive Foreign Minister of Egypt, Dr Badr Abdelatty. Conveyed deep appreciation for my friend, President Sisi, for his vital role in the Gaza Peace Agreement. The India–Egypt Strategic Partnership continues to grow stronger for the benefit of our peoples and our shared region.”

The meeting came days after the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El Sheikh, which Egypt hosted to consolidate international support for enforcing the ceasefire. While PM Modi was invited by President Sisi, India was represented by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh.

The leaders also reviewed the expanding India–Egypt partnership, highlighting progress in renewable energy, defence manufacturing, digital innovation, and cultural exchanges. Both sides agreed to sustain momentum in bilateral initiatives and continue close coordination on regional and global issues of mutual concern.
