IND vs AUS: Rain Forces Washout at Gabba, India Clinch Series 2–1 to Extend 13-Year Unbeaten Run.

India extended their 13-year unbeaten streak in bilateral T20I series in Australia after heavy rain washed out the fifth and final match at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, 8 November. The visitors claimed the five-match contest 2–1, with two games — the opener in Canberra and the finale in Brisbane — abandoned due to rain.

Put in to bat after Australia won the toss, India raced to 52 for 0 in just 4.5 overs before a storm halted play. Shubman Gill (29* off 14) looked in sublime touch, while Abhishek Sharma (23* off 13) was beginning to find his rhythm on a lively surface offering good bounce. Despite efforts by the ground staff, persistent downpour led to the match being called off at 8:55 pm local time (4:25 pm IST).

Thousands of Indian fans filled the stands hoping for a grand finish, but the weather had the final say.

Gill Finds Form, Abhishek Bags Player of the Series
Gill, who had faced scrutiny for his strike rate earlier in the series, batted with intent this time — hitting four boundaries in one over off Ben Dwarshuis. He seemed set for a big knock before rain intervened.

Abhishek, meanwhile, was dropped twice — on 4 by Glenn Maxwell and on 11 by Dwarshuis — but looked to be finding his groove when play was stopped. Despite a subdued outing in the finale, the left-hander was named Player of the Series for his consistent performances throughout the tour.

“I was excited from the time this tour was confirmed. Pitches here are great for batting. We could’ve put up bigger totals, but overall we did well as a team,” Abhishek said after the presentation.

India’s Unbeaten Record Down Under
Since losing a one-off T20I against Australia in 2008, India have remained unbeaten in every T20I series played Down Under — winning 3–0 in 2016, 2–1 in 2020, and now 2–1 in 2025.

Their next T20I challenge will be at home, when they host South Africa for a five-match series from December 9 to 19, with fixtures in Cuttack, Mullanpur, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad.
