Punjab Police arrested three operatives of gangster Prabh Dasuwal’s network after an encounter in Faridkot on Saturday night, officials said.
The prime accused, Arshdeep Singh alias Vicky — described as the gang’s key shooter — was injured in the leg during the exchange of fire and is currently hospitalised. Police said they had received specific intelligence that Arshdeep was roaming in the Bajakhana area with plans to carry out a major crime.
Acting on the input, police teams set up checkpoints. When officers signalled him to stop, Arshdeep allegedly opened fire, prompting police to retaliate in self-defence. Six rounds were exchanged before he was overpowered. A Yugana pistol, live cartridges and an HF Deluxe motorcycle were recovered from him.
Arshdeep, a resident of Madi Kalan village in Amritsar Rural, is accused of executing multiple target killings on Dasuwal’s directions, including a shooting in Amritsar. He had also conducted recces for the gang and is already named in an extortion case.
The arrest comes days after police nabbed two other members of the same gang — Baljit Singh alias Kaddu and his brother Sunny — from a government school stadium on November 14. The duo was caught with a .30-bore pistol and live cartridges. During questioning, they revealed the weapon had been sourced from Arshdeep and that they were preparing to commit a major crime.
All three accused are linked to extortion operations across Moga, Amritsar and Tarn Taran. Kaddu is already booked in a ₹15-lakh extortion case in Moga. Police said the gang was planning another crime in the district, which was foiled due to timely action.
