Tollywood actor Rana Daggubati on Saturday appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Telangana in connection with a case involving the alleged promotion of an online betting application.
According to a senior police official, Daggubati was questioned about his purported role in endorsing or promoting the betting platform, PTI reported.
Speaking to the media after the questioning, the Baahubali star said he was committed to helping authorities create awareness about the risks associated with online gaming and betting.
“What happened has happened. Now we will focus on communicating the right message about these gaming apps,” he said.
The Telangana government formed the SIT—anchored by the Additional Director General of Police, CID—to crack down on illegal online betting activities and carry out a comprehensive probe. The team is examining promotion strategies, financial links, and alleged networks behind these platforms. High-profile figures who endorsed the apps are being questioned to determine their level of involvement.
Under the Telangana Gaming Act, 2017, all forms of online betting are banned.
The SIT launched multiple cases in March this year after complaints that illegal betting apps were enticing users with false promises of quick earnings, pushing many into financial and psychological distress, and in some cases leading to suicides.
Several other celebrities — including Vijay Deverakonda, Prakash Raj, and Manchu Lakshmi — are also under investigation. Alongside actors, app operators and social media influencers have been booked under the Telangana State Gaming Act, 2017, BNS, and the IT Act for allegedly promoting these platforms through online channels.
