England pacer Brydon Carse has confirmed that the visitors have already prepared strategies to handle Travis Head if he opens the batting again in the second Ashes Test in Brisbane. Head’s blistering 69-ball century in Perth, the second-fastest in Ashes history, helped Australia secure an eight-wicket win inside two days and shifted the momentum of the series.

Head was promoted to open in place of the injured Usman Khawaja and indicated he could reprise the role in Brisbane. “That was a phenomenal knock by a high-quality player. If he does open the batting again, we’ve got set plans we’ll look to use,” Carse said on December 1.

Carse stressed that England’s mindset will remain consistent despite Head’s aggressive performance in Perth. “He had an incredible day, but whatever we’re presented with, we’ll stick to our plans,” he added.

England Look to Bounce Back

After a two-day defeat in Perth that exposed both batting and bowling inconsistencies, England aim to respond in Brisbane. Carse was one of the few positives for England, taking a five-wicket haul despite the loss. His role is expected to expand, especially with Mark Wood’s fitness in doubt. Wood missed training due to concerns over his left knee, leaving his availability for the day-night Test uncertain.

“I’ll be adaptable to whatever the situation brings,” Carse said. “Different challenges this week, with bowling under lights at different times, but as a bowling group we’re settled in our roles.”

With Australia leading 1-0 and Head in dominant form, England’s execution of their plans early in Brisbane could prove decisive in keeping the series competitive.
