Kremlin Says Ukraine Talks With US ‘Useful’ but No Territorial Compromise Yet.
The Kremlin on Wednesday confirmed that no agreement had been reached on territorial issues following nearly five hours of talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner in Moscow.
The discussions focused on potential steps to end the war in Ukraine, Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II. Russian officials described the talks as “useful” but emphasized that “a lot of work” remains before any deal can be finalized.
According to state news agency RIA, Witkoff immediately visited the US embassy in Moscow after the meeting, though no details were released regarding the next phase of negotiations. Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev tweeted a brief assessment, calling the session “productive.”
During the meeting, Putin criticized Ukraine’s European backers, accusing them of obstructing US-led peace efforts. He claimed that European governments had altered peace proposals with “demands that are absolutely unacceptable to Russia,” which, according to him, had “blocked the entire peace process” while placing blame on Moscow.
