Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance on its strong performance.

In the Mumbai and Maharashtra civic body elections, saying the results reflected public endorsement of the NDA’s agenda of good governance and public welfare.

As early trends pointed to a sweeping victory for the saffron alliance, the Prime Minister said the people of Maharashtra had “blessed” the NDA for its development vision. In a post on X, Modi wrote: “Thank you, Maharashtra! The enthusiastic people of the state have blessed the NDA’s agenda of public welfare and good governance.

The results of the municipal corporation elections show that the bond between the NDA and the people of Maharashtra has grown even stronger. Our record of performance and vision for development have touched people’s hearts. This mandate will further accelerate progress.”

According to trends, the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance is leading or has won in 24 of the 29 municipal corporations that went to polls across the state. In Mumbai, the Mahayuti is leading with 112 seats, well ahead of its rivals — the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) alliance.

If the trends hold, Mumbai is set to get its first mayor not affiliated with the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, marking a significant political shift in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The victory sparked celebrations among BJP and Shiv Sena leaders across the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari congratulated the alliance ahead of the Prime Minister’s message.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the party headquarters in Mumbai and addressed party workers, thanking voters for backing the NDA’s development agenda and ideological pitch in the civic polls.
