Amazon to Cut Thousands More Corporate Jobs Amid Cost-Cutting Drive

Amazon.com Inc. is planning to lay off thousands more corporate employees as part of its ongoing effort to streamline management layers, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The company may begin rolling out the layoffs as early as next week.

This latest round follows October 2025’s announcement to cut about 14,000 roles, with Amazon warning that further reductions could follow in 2026 as it identifies “additional places we can remove layers.” Managers were given the option to implement the cuts either in October or defer them to the new year.

The phased layoffs, occurring before and after the key holiday shopping quarter, echo earlier rounds in late 2022 and early 2023, when Amazon eliminated roughly 27,000 positions.

As of September 30, Amazon employed around 1.57 million people globally, with the corporate workforce numbering about 3,50,000. Previous reductions include 8.5% of Amazon’s Luxembourg workforce (approximately 370 employees) in December 2025 and 84 jobs in Greece, separate from the global October cuts.

Amazon has informed Washington authorities in compliance with the State’s WARN Act, which requires companies to disclose layoffs within 90 days of prior notice.

CEO Andy Jassy, who has focused on cost-cutting since 2021, noted in June 2026 that generative AI is expected to further reduce the corporate workforce in the coming years.
