The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday called for restraint and emphasised the importance of protecting civilians amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

“We urge all sides to exercise restraint, avoid escalation, and prioritise the safety of civilians. Dialogue and diplomacy should be pursued to de-escalate tensions and address underlying issues. Sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected,” the MEA said in a statement.

Indian authorities also confirmed that missions in the region are actively monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with Indian nationals. Advisories have been issued urging citizens to remain vigilant, stay in touch with local missions, and follow official security guidance.

US–Israel strikes heighten Middle East tensions

Explosions were reported across Tehran early Saturday after Israel launched what it described as pre-emptive strikes against Iran, sharply escalating regional tensions.

Israel said the operation targeted threats against the country. “The State of Israel launched a pre-emptive attack against Iran to remove threats to the State of Israel,” stated Israel Katz.

Air raid sirens were activated in Tel Aviv as authorities warned of possible Iranian missile retaliation. A state of emergency was declared as Israeli security forces prepared for potential escalation.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump confirmed US involvement in the military campaign, stating that “major combat operations in Iran” had begun. Trump also called on the Iranian public to challenge their leadership as the joint US-Israeli strikes continued, raising concerns over a potential regime change in Tehran.
