India eventually broke the deadlock in the 40th minute after winning another penalty corner. Manisha Chauhan stepped up and fired a powerful drag-flick straight down the middle, beating the defence and finding the back of the net.

The hosts continued to press in the final quarter and earned two early penalty corners while searching for a second goal, but Italy’s defence held firm. The visitors pushed hard in the closing stages and earned a penalty corner in the 59th minute, but India held their composure to deny an equaliser and seal the narrow victory.
