Akshay Kumar has confirmed that his film Gorkha has been officially shelved. During a recent live interaction with fans on social media.
The actor revealed that the long-delayed war drama will no longer move forward. “Nahi, Gorkha movie nahi ban rahi hai kisine abhi poocha hai” (No, the Gorkha movie is not being made; someone just asked about it),” Akshay said, as quoted by Siasat Daily.
While the actor did not specify the exact reason behind the decision, reports suggest that the project faced multiple setbacks over time, including rising production costs and unresolved technical challenges, which ultimately led to it being put on hold indefinitely.
About Gorkha
Gorkha was based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a decorated officer of the Indian Army’s 5th Gorkha Rifles. The film was set to be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan.
The first look of the film was unveiled in 2021, featuring Akshay Kumar as a war hero. At the time, the actor had expressed pride in being part of the project, calling it an inspiring true story.
Later in 2022, producer Anand L. Rai stated that the team was still working on finalising the script. “We will only make the film when we feel we are 100 percent right with the subject and have cracked it well,” he had said in an interview.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar was recently seen in Bhoot Bangla, which released on April 17. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film received mixed reviews and opened to ₹12.50 crore at the box office on its first day.
