No Solo Heroics: IPL Clash Sees Jadeja, Archer Sink LSG at Home

Their middle order had been under the scanner—remove Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal early, and Rajasthan Royals could crumble. That was the theory.

On Wednesday, the Royals dismantled that notion.

Producing a clinical all-round display, Rajasthan outclassed Lucknow Super Giants by 40 runs, proving they are far more than a top-heavy unit. On a surface that slowed significantly in the second innings, they defended 159—the lowest total successfully protected this season—to deepen Lucknow’s struggles at home.

The architect of the turnaround was Ravindra Jadeja, whose all-round brilliance (43 off 29 balls and a key breakthrough) set the tone. He was ably supported by a disciplined bowling effort, spearheaded by the pace duo of Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger. The win ended Rajasthan’s two-match losing streak and lifted them back to second on the table.

For Lucknow, the woes continue. Their seventh consecutive home defeat has turned the Ekana Stadium into a puzzle they simply cannot solve. Captain Rishabh Pant will come under scrutiny, especially after a reckless dismissal for a duck at a crucial juncture.

Mitchell Marsh fought a lone battle with 55 off 41 balls, but the lack of support proved costly. Only Nicholas Pooran (22) and Himmat Singh (15) managed double digits as LSG slumped to ninth.

Earlier, Rajasthan had to rebuild after another top-order wobble. Jadeja’s experience proved invaluable after a collapse left them reeling. Now back in Royals colours following his move from Chennai Super Kings, the veteran steadied the innings and ensured a fighting total.

The biggest disappointment for the packed crowd was the early exit of teenage sensation Suryavanshi. Under pressure after quick wickets, the 15-year-old couldn’t find fluency and eventually fell attempting to break free.

Lucknow’s bowlers, led by Mohammed Shami, had actually done well. Shami removed Jaiswal after a fiery spell and then dismissed Dhruv Jurel with a sharp delivery outside off.

Mohsin Khan also impressed, producing a disciplined spell that choked Suryavanshi and forced a mistake. Rajasthan slipped to 44 for 3 and later 77 for 5, with Shimron Hetmyer unable to capitalise.

However, a late surge changed the narrative.

Donovan Ferreira chipped in with a quick 20 before Shubham Dubey provided a crucial cameo of 19. Together with Jadeja, he added 49 runs, giving the innings much-needed momentum.

Jadeja then delivered the decisive blow in the final over, taking apart Mayank Yadav for 20 runs with a flurry of boundaries and a six.

In the end, those extra runs made all the difference—runs that Lucknow never came close to chasing.
