Madhoo Recalls Intense ‘Yeshwant’ Shoot With Nana Patekar, Says Emotional Scene Turned Real

Actor Madhoo has revisited a tense and emotionally charged experience from the sets of the 1997 film Yeshwant, revealing that a pivotal scene with co-star Nana Patekar unexpectedly escalated into a real-life physical confrontation.

Speaking in an interview, Madhoo said the sequence—where she played Nana Patekar’s wife—was designed to be deeply emotional, but the intensity of the performance led to an unscripted moment that left her shocked on set.

‘He Slapped Me for Real’: Madhoo Recounts On-Set Shock

Madhoo recalled that the scene required her character to break down in tears. While she initially planned to use glycerin, she said Nana Patekar insisted she tap into genuine emotion instead.

According to her, the situation escalated when the actor delivered an unexpected real slap during the take to provoke a reaction.

“He slapped me for real. It was so hard that tears came naturally,” Madhoo said, adding that she was startled because no such action had been discussed during rehearsals.

She further said her immediate reaction was instinctive: “I was angry and I slapped him back.”

Scene Wrapped Earlier Than Planned

Madhoo said the sequence, considered a key moment in Yeshwant, was originally scheduled to take an entire day of shooting. However, due to the intensity and realism of the performances, the scene was completed in half a day.

She added that the raw emotions captured on camera meant additional takes were unnecessary, as the moment had already achieved the desired impact.

Working Style Differences on Set

Reflecting on the experience, Madhoo said Nana Patekar’s approach to acting was deeply immersive and often pushed co-actors beyond conventional methods.

She explained that while she typically switched on and off between takes, Patekar preferred staying in character throughout the shoot, sometimes reacting strongly if he felt a performance was not authentic enough.

Despite the intensity, she clarified that there was no lasting conflict and that she did not experience disrespect from him during the film’s production.

Career Update

Madhoo was last seen in the 2025 mythological drama Kannappa and is next set to appear in the historical film Governor: The Silent Saviour, scheduled for release on June 12, 2026.
