Shree Charani Set for Major T20I Rankings Rise After Standout Women’s Asia Cup

India spinner Shree Charani is closing in on a historic mark in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings after an outstanding campaign at the Women’s Asia Cup.

The 22-year-old left-arm spinner has climbed to 804 rating points, leaving her just two points short of the all-time record for a bowler in the women’s T20I rankings. Australia’s Megan Schutt currently holds that benchmark, having reached 806 points in November 2018.

Charani has already created history by becoming the first Indian to cross 800 rating points in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings. Her 804-point rating is also the highest ever achieved by an Indian player in the rankings, surpassing the previous national record held by former India captain Mithali Raj.

Charani Breaks Mithali Raj’s Long-Standing Record

Before Charani’s rise, Mithali Raj held the record for the highest rating achieved by an Indian in the women’s T20I rankings.

The former India captain reached 780 points in 2011, a mark that remained untouched for 15 years. Charani has now moved well beyond that figure with her latest rating of 804 points.

Her achievement also puts her in an exclusive group of bowlers to have crossed the 800-point barrier. England’s Sophie Ecclestone previously reached 802 points, while Schutt remains the highest-rated bowler with 806.

Asia Cup Campaign Drives Charani’s Rise

Charani played a crucial role in India’s successful Women’s Asia Cup campaign, finishing the tournament with 12 wickets.

Her most significant performance came in the final against Sri Lanka, where she claimed 4/20 to help India secure the title.

The strong tournament has further accelerated Charani’s rise in the rankings, despite her relatively limited international experience.

Two Points Away From History

Charani had already reached the top of the T20I bowling rankings earlier in 2026, and her performances since then have continued to strengthen her position.

With only two rating points separating her from Schutt’s 806-point record, Charani has a chance to set a new benchmark for the highest rating ever achieved by a bowler in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings.

Her upcoming performances, including at the Asian Games, could determine whether she can make another jump and move past Schutt’s long-standing record.
