J&K: Two Terrorists Killed in Overnight Gunfight With Security Forces in Udhampur

Two suspected terrorists believed to be affiliated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Wednesday. Their identities are yet to be officially established.

The operation began after security agencies received information about the suspected movement of individuals in the Sohan area. Acting on the intelligence, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the region.

During the search, the forces came under fire, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire with the suspected terrorists. The encounter continued through the night.

Security personnel later recovered the bodies of two men believed to be foreign nationals. Officials suspect that the two were associated with JeM. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site.

The joint operation involved personnel from the Rashtriya Rifles, Para (Special Forces) and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The Udhampur encounter comes days after security forces killed a Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on September 5.

The slain terrorist was identified as Yasir and was reportedly associated with the Sulaiman Musa group of LeT. According to security sources, he separated from the group around a year ago and had subsequently been operating independently.

Security agencies had been monitoring Yasir’s movements and tracking his activities in the Yousmarg area of Budgam before the operation that led to his death.
