Delhi CM Served Notice Over “SIR Discrepancies” as Election Body Issues Clarification

Delhi SIR: Rekha Gupta, Arvind Kejriwal, Kapil Sibal Among Voters Issued Notices

Several prominent voters, including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and former Union minister Kapil Sibal, have received notices over discrepancies in their enumeration forms submitted during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, officials said.

The Election Commission’s Delhi CEO office later clarified that Gupta’s electoral entry had been validated following verification of the relevant documents. Her name will be included in the final electoral roll for the Shalimar Bagh constituency, scheduled to be published on November 4.

Kejriwal and his family members have been flagged as “unmapped with last SIR”. The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for the New Delhi constituency said their entries would be validated and kept for inclusion in the final voter list after verification of the required facts and documents.

Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal, his parents and son have also received notices over the same issue. The ERO said their submitted forms did not contain complete details needed to link them with the electoral roll from the previous SIR.

Sibal and his wife Promila have also been issued notices for being “unmapped with last SIR”. Former Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal were among other prominent voters who received notices. Sachdeva said his notice concerned a name-related mismatch and that he would submit the required documents for correction.

According to the Delhi CEO office, notices have been issued to voters whose records could not be linked to the electoral roll from the previous SIR or whose details showed discrepancies during the linking process. More than 33.13 lakh voters were identified for notices, while 31.63 lakh notices had been generated and delivered as of Saturday.

Officials said a large number of notices relate to missing records from the previous SIR conducted in 2002. Gupta’s case involved an age-related discrepancy in the details recorded in her enumeration form. Physical verification was subsequently carried out and her entry was validated.

The notices are being issued during the claims and objections phase of the SIR, which is scheduled to conclude on September 30. Voters who receive notices have been asked to submit their replies and supporting documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officers by October 29.

The Delhi CEO office has also uploaded the list of voters who received notices on its website. Officials said the inclusion of prominent voters in the draft rolls allows them an opportunity to provide the necessary documents during the claims and objections process.

The development follows the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 31, after which more than 47 lakh names were excluded from the draft list as part of the ongoing SIR exercise.
