Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Overnight Rain Brings Winter Chill, IMD Warns of Heavy Showers Across Several States
Delhi-NCR experienced a significant weather shift on Friday, October 30, as overnight rainfall brought cooler temperatures, wet roads and a noticeable chill to the air. The showers offered residents an early taste of winter, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting further rain and thunderstorms before weather conditions gradually improve over the weekend.
Besides lowering temperatures, the rainfall also brought some relief from pollution in the national capital. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 133 at 4 am on Friday, placing it in the moderate category. This marked a considerable improvement from Wednesday and Thursday, when the AQI remained above 200 in the poor category.
Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Rain And Thunderstorms Expected
Overnight showers affected several parts of the national capital, leaving roads soaked and bringing cloudy conditions. Areas around Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and Jamia Millia Islamia also witnessed steady rainfall during the night.
The cooling effect was noticeable across Delhi and neighbouring NCR cities, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in New Delhi has forecast generally cloudy skies across these areas on Friday, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and lightning.
While intermittent showers are expected during the day, isolated locations could receive heavy rainfall at night. Residents have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and periods of intense precipitation.
Delhi Weather Forecast: What To Expect Over The Weekend?
The IMD expects rainfall activity across Delhi-NCR to gradually subside after Friday. Weather conditions are likely to become more settled over the next two days.
October 30: Generally cloudy skies, light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are expected across Delhi-NCR. Isolated heavy showers may occur at night.
October 31: Partly cloudy conditions are likely, with no weather warnings issued for the region.
November 1: Mainly clear skies are expected, indicating a return to relatively stable weather.
The forecast suggests that the national capital could experience a cooler and more pleasant weekend following the overnight rainfall.
Delhi AQI Improves After Overnight Rain
The rainfall has also contributed to a noticeable improvement in Delhi’s air quality. CPCB data showed that the city’s AQI dropped to 133 at 4 am on Friday, moving into the moderate category after two consecutive days of poor air quality.
Under the national AQI classification, readings between 101 and 200 are considered moderate, while values ranging from 201 to 300 fall under the poor category.
Although the latest reading offers some relief, pollution remains a concern, particularly for children, senior citizens and people with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions. Air quality can also differ across neighbourhoods and fluctuate throughout the day.
Residents are advised to follow updated pollution readings and take necessary precautions before undertaking prolonged outdoor activities.
IMD Heavy Rain Alert: Bihar, Chhattisgarh And Odisha Face Intense Showers
While Delhi-NCR is likely to experience improving weather from November 1, several parts of eastern and central India remain under the threat of heavy rainfall.
The IMD has warned that a remnant cyclonic circulation could intensify rainfall activity across multiple states.
North Bihar is likely to witness isolated extremely heavy rainfall on October 30. Similar intense downpours are possible in parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall has also been forecast in Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and East Uttar Pradesh.
In addition, the weather department has flagged a low-to-moderate risk of flash floods until October 30 in vulnerable watersheds across Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand and East Uttar Pradesh.
People living in low-lying areas should remain alert to waterlogging and sudden increases in water levels. Travellers are advised not to cross flooded roads or swollen streams and to follow instructions issued by local authorities.
South India Weather: Heavy Rain Expected From November 2
Rainfall activity is also expected to increase across southern India in the first week of November as a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal influences regional conditions.
According to the IMD outlook, scattered showers may continue towards the end of October, followed by more widespread rainfall between November 2 and 4.
Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh are among the regions likely to experience rainfall during this period.
Isolated very heavy rainfall is forecast over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 2 and 3, raising concerns about localised flooding and disruption to road traffic.
Telangana may also experience thunderstorms and thundersqualls, with gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph.
Residents should secure loose objects around their homes, avoid exposed locations during thunderstorms and remain cautious while travelling in adverse weather.
Delhi-NCR To See Clearer Skies As Rain Continues Elsewhere
Delhi-NCR is likely to witness a gradual improvement in weather conditions following Friday’s showers, with partly cloudy skies expected on October 31 and mainly clear weather forecast for November 1.
The improvement in Delhi’s AQI has provided additional relief after two days of elevated pollution levels. However, residents should continue checking air-quality updates as pollution levels may fluctuate.
Meanwhile, rainfall concerns remain across eastern and central India, particularly in Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Southern states are also preparing for another spell of widespread showers in early November.
As October draws to a close, Delhi-NCR can expect cooler weather, while residents of rain-alert regions should remain vigilant about possible flooding, strong winds and weather-related travel disruptions.
