After BRICS Summit in Rio, PM Modi Arrives in Brasília for State Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brazil’s capital Brasília on Monday evening (local time) for a State Visit, following his participation in the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro from July 6–7. He was warmly received at the airport by Brazil’s Minister of Defence Jose Mucio Monteiro Filho, with a traditional Samba Reggae performance welcoming the Indian delegation.
The visit comes at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and marks a key moment in India-Brazil relations as the two countries look to broaden their Strategic Partnership.

During the Brasília leg of his visit, PM Modi is expected to hold detailed discussions with President Lula. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the agenda includes cooperation across a wide range of sectors:

“Under India’s BRICS Chairmanship, we will define BRICS in a new form — Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability,” Modi stated during a session on ‘Environment, COP-30 and Global Health’.
A video shared by PM Modi featured key moments from the summit, including bilateral meetings and his welcome by the Indian diaspora in Rio.
India–MERCOSUR Ties Also in Focus
On the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, PM Modi met Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi to discuss expansion of the India–MERCOSUR Preferential Trade Agreement, aiming to enhance economic integration with South America.

Digital Infrastructure (including UPI and ICT)

Modi’s Multi-Nation Tour Continues
PM Modi’s visit to Brazil is part of a five-nation tour that began last week in Ghana, followed by Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and now Brazil. He is scheduled to visit Namibia on July 9, where he will also address its Parliament — a rare honour for a foreign leader.
