Amit Shah Announces UCC Rollout Across 21 States Before 2029 Lok Sabha Elections

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that the government aims to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across all 21 states governed by the BJP-led NDA before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to the media during the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan in Mumbai on Sunday, Shah expressed confidence that the UCC would be rolled out in the remaining NDA-ruled states within the next three years.

“We introduced the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in several states. I am confident that we will implement the UCC in all 21 states governed by the BJP-led NDA before 2029,” Shah said.

The Home Minister also highlighted changes to India’s criminal justice system following the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He claimed that several states had recorded a 30 per cent increase in their conviction rates within a single year after the new criminal laws came into effect.

Addressing questions about tensions surrounding language and regional identity, Shah said the government remains committed to promoting the use of mother tongues.

“It is our government’s policy to prioritise the mother tongue, and the Constitution has also issued specific directives to the states in this regard. I do not believe this will become a major issue,” he said.

Shah also spoke about incidents that have the potential to trigger social tensions, saying state governments have an important role in addressing such situations.

“While isolated incidents may occur if certain individuals attempt to stoke tensions, the states have experienced leadership and will certainly find a way to resolve such issues,” he said.

Seva Sankalp Abhiyan To Begin On PM Modi’s Birthday

The month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is being organised nationwide to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service.

The campaign will begin on September 17, which is Modi’s birthday, and continue until October 17. According to Shah, the programme will reach every district, Lok Sabha and Assembly constituency, as well as polling booth across the country.

The Home Minister said members of the BJP-led NDA, voluntary organisations and citizens from across India will participate in the campaign.

The initiative is aimed at highlighting Modi’s 25 years of public service and expanding outreach activities across the country during the month-long programme.
