Paris Diamond League: Neeraj Chopra Returns to Familiar Ground to Lead Star-Studded Javelin Field.

Olympic silver medallist Neeraj Chopra will headline a formidable men’s javelin throw lineup at the Paris Diamond League on June 20, marking one of the most highly anticipated contests of the athletics season.

Joining Chopra in the elite seven-man field are Germany’s Julian Weber and Grenada’s two-time world champion Anderson Peters, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown ahead of the Paris Olympics.

The event marks Chopra’s return to the Stade Charlety, where he last competed in 2017 as a rising junior. Then 19, he finished fifth with a throw of 84.67m. Now 27, the Indian javelin star arrives as a double Olympic medallist and member of the exclusive 90-metre club.

Chopra kicked off his 2025 season with a win in Potchefstroom, South Africa, and followed it up with a career-best 90.23m throw in Doha — a milestone moment as he broke the 90m barrier. However, he finished second to Julian Weber, who won with 91.06m. The story repeated in Poland a week later, where Chopra threw 84.14m in cold, wet conditions to finish behind Weber once again.

The men’s javelin start list in Paris includes:

  • Neeraj Chopra (India)
  • Julian Weber (Germany)
  • Anderson Peters (Grenada)
  • Keshorn Walcott (Trinidad and Tobago)
  • Julius Yego (Kenya)
  • Andrian Mardare (Moldova)
  • Luiz Mauricio da Silva (Brazil)

Of the seven, only Weber (91.44m) and Peters (93.07m) have thrown farther than Chopra, who remains in top form and motivated to clinch his first Diamond League victory of 2025.

“This is a field stacked with firepower,” organisers noted. “Five of the entrants have already breached the 90m mark — a crazy competition is expected.”

Following Paris, Chopra is scheduled to compete at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava on June 24, before heading to Bengaluru for the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic on July 5 — a World Athletics category A event hosted by Chopra himself.

With Olympic momentum and season rankings on the line, the clash in Paris between Chopra, Weber, and Peters is poised to be a blockbuster.
