Brian Lara Pens Heartfelt Note on West Indies Cricket After Delhi Test.
West Indies legend Brian Lara shared an emotional message reflecting on West Indies cricket after attending the second Test against India at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The batting great praised the team’s fighting spirit and resilience, highlighting their impressive comeback in the match after a challenging start.
After being bowled out for 248 in their first innings, the visitors staged a strong response, scoring 390 in the second innings with centuries from John Campbell and Shai Hope, setting India a fourth-innings target of 121.
Lara, who was part of the West Indies contingent in Delhi, posted on Instagram expressing pride in the team and offering insights into the challenges they face.
“Being with the players gave me a deeper understanding of their reality. They’re not just going through the motions—they’re searching for ways to lift themselves and the team out of this strife,” Lara wrote.
He also urged Cricket West Indies (CWI) to involve former legends more closely with the current squad to provide mentorship and guidance. Lara highlighted the positive impact of senior figures like Sir Vivian Richards on the players’ mindset.
“Having legends around, whether at home or away, sends a simple but powerful message: we believe in you. It can inspire breakthroughs,” he added.
Concluding his note, Lara thanked his fellow legends, CWI, and India for their support. “Wearing the burgundy that is buried deep in our hearts was an honour. Congrats @johnbramz @shaidhope—proud of your performances,” he wrote.
At stumps on Day 4, India were 63/1 chasing 121, with KL Rahul (25*) and Sai Sudharsan (30*) steady at the crease. West Indies’ 10th-wicket pair of Greaves (50) and Jayden Seales (32) had earlier frustrated the Indian bowlers with a defiant 79-run stand before Jasprit Bumrah wrapped up the innings.
