Cameron Green, Steve Smith Headline 1,355-Player IPL 2026 Mini-Auction; Glenn Maxwell Opts Out.
Cameron Green and Steve Smith are among the marquee names registered for the IPL 2026 mini-auction, scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi. Both are in the Rs. 2 crore base price bracket, joining a strong pool of overseas talent. A total of 1,355 players from 14 countries have registered for the auction, reflecting the IPL’s global appeal.
Other notable international entrants include Matthew Short, Josh Inglis, Jonny Bairstow, Jamie Smith, Rachin Ravindra, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, and Alzarri Joseph. The Rs. 2 crore overseas bracket features 43 players, including high-profile names such as Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mustafizur Rahman, Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Matheesha Pathirana, Maheesh Theekshana, and Wanindu Hasaranga. Inglis’ availability is uncertain due to his upcoming wedding.
Domestic Stars in the Mix
Top Indian players registered include Mayank Agarwal, KS Bharat, Rahul Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi, Akash Deep, Deepak Hooda, Venkatesh Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Mavi, Navdeep Saini, Chetan Sakariya, Kuldeep Sen, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, Sandeep Warrier, and Umesh Yadav. Only Ravi Bishnoi and Venkatesh Iyer have set their base price at Rs. 2 crore.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has entered at a base price of Rs. 1 crore. The auction also features players from emerging cricketing nations, including Malaysia, with India-born Virandeep Singh among the entrants.
Maxwell Stays Away
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has opted out of the mini-auction, according to ESPN Cricinfo. Maxwell, bought by PBKS in last year’s mega auction, struggled in the previous season with 48 runs and 4 wickets in seven matches and also missed games due to injury. His declining IPL form over the past two seasons influenced his decision to skip the auction.
Purse and Squad Slots
Following player retentions, the 10 IPL franchises have a combined auction purse of Rs. 237.55 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders hold the largest purse at Rs. 64.30 crore, followed by Chennai Super Kings with Rs. 43.40 crore. A total of 77 squad slots are available, including 31 overseas slots, with franchises expected to balance budgets, squad composition, and targeted international signings carefully.
The mini-auction promises high drama as franchises bid for top-tier domestic and international talent, with names like Green and Smith likely to dominate discussions. Decisions made at the auction could be pivotal in shaping teams’ fortunes for the 2026 IPL season.
