CJP Leaders Allege Phone Tampering After 24-Hour Detention, Accuse Modi Government of Creating ‘War-Like Situation’

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das on Sunday accused Delhi Police of forcibly seizing their mobile phones during their detention and raised concerns that the devices could have been cloned or tampered with.

The allegations came hours after the leaders were released from police custody following their detention on Saturday. Addressing a press conference in Delhi, Das claimed that police had taken their phones without following the prescribed legal procedure for seizing electronic devices, including the preparation of a seizure memo.

“They picked us up as if we were criminals. They took our phones forcibly,” Das alleged, adding that the three detained leaders had been taken to different locations.

He further claimed that the phones had remained in police custody for 24 hours, raising concerns about possible cloning or tampering. The allegations have not been independently verified.

CJP Leaders Detained at Delhi Airport

CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and Abhijeet Dipke were detained from an aircraft after it landed in Delhi on Saturday morning, ahead of the party’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar.

They were released on Sunday morning. According to police, their release was subject to a bond requiring them to maintain peace and good behaviour for one year.

Reacting to the conditions, Ranka accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of contributing to the tensions surrounding the protests.

“The actual breach of peace was being caused by Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah,” he alleged.

Ranka also claimed that the detention of protesters over the weekend had damaged India’s international image. He said thousands of protesters had been detained over the preceding two days and criticised the decision to detain CJP leaders directly from their flight.

“This fight has just started. This fight has become like a war created by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah,” he said, urging people to join the protest.

CJP Objects to Security Measures at Jantar Mantar

The party leaders also criticised the security arrangements around Jantar Mantar, arguing that protesters should be allowed to demonstrate peacefully at the designated protest site.

Das alleged that the heavy security deployment had turned the area into a fortress, inconveniencing local residents and creating an atmosphere of confrontation.

“The people want to protest at the designated site. The government should have come forward to talk with us. More than 40,000 troops are here. It has become a fortress. You have created a war-like situation and people are facing problems,” Das said.

The leaders maintained that their agitation would continue peacefully across the country until their demands were met.

“We are holding a protest march again today, and our agitation will continue until we get the resignation,” Ranka said, without further elaborating in the remarks provided.

CJP Leaders Allege Role of Right-Wing Groups in Violence

The CJP leaders also accused right-wing groups of instigating violence and alleged that members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were supporting them.

Separately, Delhi Police arrested four men on Sunday in connection with a viral video allegedly showing a group of people assaulting young students and pushing and hitting women on a stretch of DDU Marg in the national capital.

The arrested men reportedly claimed links to the Hindu Raksha Dal, a right-wing group.

The arrests came amid heightened tensions surrounding the protests and security arrangements in Delhi. The CJP leaders reiterated that they intended to continue their demonstrations peacefully while pressing for their demands to be addressed.
