CJP Says No Written Assurance Yet on Withdrawal of Students’ FIRs, Warns of Fresh Nationwide Protest

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday claimed that the Centre has not yet provided a written assurance on its alleged commitment to withdraw all FIRs registered against students and protesters or to refrain from taking future action against those involved in the nationwide demonstrations.

CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said he met government representatives on Tuesday evening after being invited for discussions. According to Das, officials referred to a Supreme Court order during the meeting, particularly Direction No. 4, which permits the investigation into existing FIRs to continue.

“The government showed us the Supreme Court’s order and said that since it is a written judicial directive, the matter is now sub judice,” Das told ANI.

However, he said the Centre did not respond when asked whether it would provide a written guarantee on withdrawing the FIRs.

“I asked them directly whether they would give the guarantee in writing. We have received no response so far,” Das said.

He further claimed that the government’s assurance, if implemented, would extend beyond Delhi and apply to BJP-ruled and NDA-governed states as well.

CJP Warns of ‘Massive Betrayal’ if Assurances Are Not Honoured

With the deadline set by the party nearing its end, Das accused the government of failing to honour its commitments and warned that it risked betraying students across the country.

He said the CJP would not accept any decision that contradicts the assurances allegedly given during earlier discussions.

“You must honour the promises made to the students. We want you to keep your word regarding any future decisions taken in the interest of students,” he said.

Das added that if the government does not fulfil its commitments, the party will launch another nationwide protest involving demonstrations in Delhi and several other states.

“We will launch a nationwide protest once again, as we remain committed to working in the best interest of students,” he said.

Objections to Supreme Court Order

Earlier, Das had criticised the Supreme Court’s interim order allowing authorities to continue investigating the FIRs registered during the student protests, saying the conditions laid down by the court were unacceptable to the party.

In a post on X, he also urged that the apex court should not be “politicised” or its orders used to target peaceful protesters.

He argued that while law enforcement may pursue action against individuals accused in unrelated criminal cases, the ongoing investigation into protest-related FIRs should not be used to harass genuine student demonstrators.

CJP Reiterates Protest Warning

The party has repeatedly warned over the past few days that it will return to the streets if the FIRs against student protesters are not withdrawn.

On Monday, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka demanded the immediate withdrawal of all cases against protesters, the release of detained students and an assurance that no new FIRs would be filed by Delhi Police, central investigative agencies or police forces in BJP-ruled states.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also issued a similar warning after the Supreme Court’s interim order, saying the party would organise another large-scale peaceful protest if students continued to face what he described as police harassment.
