Delhi Police Release Wanted Poster of Al-Qaeda Terrorist Ahead of Republic Day.
Ahead of the 77th Republic Day celebrations, the Delhi Police have issued alert posters featuring Mohammed Rehan, a Delhi-based operative of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). Authorities said this is the first time Rehan’s photo has been circulated publicly.
The move comes amid multiple terror threat inputs received from intelligence agencies. The police have put in place a multi-layered, technology-driven security setup across Kartavya Path and the entire New Delhi district.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahala, around 10,000 personnel from Delhi Police and paramilitary forces will be deployed. The area is under constant surveillance, with CCTV cameras integrated with an advanced facial recognition system (FRS). Security rehearsals and briefings have been conducted nine times to ensure readiness.
Mahala stressed that the security protocol follows standard procedures for high-profile events: “Republic Day is celebrated at a fixed time and place. We have implemented all necessary measures to ensure public safety.”
