Delhi SIR: S Jaishankar, Former Army Chief and CBI Director Among Those Served Notices

Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his wife, Kyoko Jaishankar, are among several prominent Delhi voters who have received notices during the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The list of voters flagged for verification includes former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and his family, CBI Director Praveen Sood and his family, former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and his wife, and former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai and her family. Several serving and retired bureaucrats have also been issued notices over unmapped records or discrepancies in voter details.

The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer has clarified that receiving an SIR notice does not automatically mean that a voter’s name will be removed from the electoral roll. Officials have said voters will be given an opportunity to respond and submit supporting documents before any decision is taken.

JAISHANKAR, SOOD AND DWIVEDI AMONG THOSE FLAGGED

Jaishankar and his wife have been categorised as “unmapped with last SIR”, indicating that their current electoral records could not be linked to the rolls prepared during the previous revision in 2002.

The couple is registered in the Sunder Bagh electoral part of the New Delhi Assembly constituency.

CBI Director Praveen Sood, his wife Vanita Sood and his mother Kamlesh Sood have also been placed in the same category.

Former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and his wife Sunita Dwivedi are also among those who have received notices. They are registered as voters in the New Delhi constituency.

SISODIA FAMILY FACES RECORD DISCREPANCIES

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and members of his family have also been issued notices.

While no specific reason was mentioned in Sisodia’s notice, his wife Seema Sisodia was flagged for a “self-name mismatch”. Their son Meer Sisodia received a notice citing a “parent-name mismatch”.

The notices form part of the broader verification exercise being conducted by the Delhi election authorities.

FORMER JUDGE, CPM MP’S FAMILY ALSO FLAGGED

Former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai and three members of her family have been categorised as “unmapped with last SIR”. The family members include her husband Prakash Desai, son and advocate Mike Desai, and daughter-in-law Sakshi Desai.

The wife and son of CPM MP John Brittas have also received notices. Sheba Brittas was flagged for a self-name mismatch, while her son Anand Brittas was issued a notice over a parent-name mismatch.

Both are registered voters in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.

SENIOR BUREAUCRATS AMONG THOSE ISSUED NOTICES

The SIR exercise has also flagged a number of serving and retired senior officials.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Securities and Exchange Board of India Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister Ajay Kumar Sood and Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava are among those categorised as “unmapped with last SIR”.

Others on the list include Fisheries Secretary Abhilaksh Likhi, his wife and Ex-Servicemen Welfare Secretary Sukriti Likhi, Fertiliser Secretary Rajat Kumar Mishra and Land Resources Secretary Narendra Bhooshan.

Expenditure Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam has also been flagged, while Comptroller and Auditor General K Sanjay Murthy received a notice citing a parent-name mismatch.

WHAT DOES ‘UNMAPPED WITH LAST SIR’ MEAN?

The “unmapped with last SIR” category refers to voters whose current electoral details could not be linked to their corresponding records in the previous revision.

Voters in this category, as well as those whose records contain other discrepancies, are being asked to respond to the notices and provide supporting documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer.

The Election Commission has stressed that a notice does not, by itself, establish that a voter is ineligible or mean that the person’s name will be deleted.

The concerned Electoral Registration Officer will examine the response and documents before passing an order. The process of disposing of the notices is scheduled to be completed by October 29, while the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on November 4.

KEJRIWAL AND FAMILY ALSO RECEIVED NOTICES

The latest list comes shortly after former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and four members of his family were issued notices under the same SIR exercise.

Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, father Gobind Ram Kejriwal, mother Gita Devi and 25-year-old son Pulkit Kejriwal were placed in the “unmapped with last SIR” category. They were among 110 voters flagged in a segment of Assembly Constituency 40, which covers the New Delhi constituency.

According to the New Delhi Electoral Registration Officer, their enumeration forms did not contain all the information required to establish links with electoral rolls from the previous revision in their respective states.

Overall, Delhi election authorities have issued notices to more than 3.16 million voters over discrepancies identified during the SIR exercise.

REKHA GUPTA’S RECORD CLEARED AFTER VERIFICATION

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also issued a notice during the SIR process, but her case involved an age-related discrepancy rather than an unmapped record.

Following physical verification by a Booth Level Officer, the Election Commission said her documents and electoral details had been verified. Her entry was subsequently validated and is set to be included in the final electoral roll for Assembly Constituency 14, Shalimar Bagh.

The developments come as the Delhi SIR process continues to scrutinise electoral records across the capital, with voters whose details have been flagged being given an opportunity to clarify or correct their records before the final roll is published.
