Delhi Teen Allegedly Gang-Raped Near Kalkaji Temple; Three Posing as Cops Accused, One Held

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men posing as police personnel at Astha Kunj Park near Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple on Monday evening, according to Delhi Police.

The accused allegedly threatened the teenager and her 17-year-old male friend before sexually assaulting her inside the park.

According to the complaint, the girl, who lives in Delhi, visited Kalkaji Temple with her male friend at around 7 pm. After offering prayers, the two teenagers went to Astha Kunj Park at approximately 7.30 pm, police said.

The three accused, believed to be between 25 and 30 years old, allegedly approached the teenagers and claimed to be policemen. The men then allegedly threatened both of them.

According to the girl’s statement to police, one of the accused restrained her male friend while all three men allegedly sexually assaulted her.

PTI reported that the incident allegedly took place in the park located between Kalkaji Mandir and ISKCON Temple.

A PCR call regarding the alleged incident was received at around 8.45 pm, after which a police team reached the location. The teenager was taken for a medical examination, and police began legal proceedings based on her complaint.

A case was registered under relevant sections of law, including provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said.

CCTV Footage Examined

Following the complaint, investigators began examining CCTV footage from Astha Kunj Park and nearby areas to identify the suspects and establish the sequence of events.

Police were also trying to locate and question people who may have been present in or around the park when the alleged incident occurred, PTI reported.

One Accused Held After Exchange of Fire

In a subsequent development, Delhi Police arrested one of the alleged accused following a brief exchange of fire.

The accused was identified as Asif, according to ANI. Police said he sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg during the encounter.

According to police, when officers intercepted Asif, he allegedly opened fire at them, firing three rounds. Despite being asked to surrender, he allegedly continued shooting, prompting police to retaliate. One of the bullets struck him in the right leg.

Police were continuing efforts to trace and arrest the two remaining accused in the case.
