Mondo Duplantis Soars Again: Breaks Pole Vault World Record for 12th Time in Stockholm

Swedish pole vault phenom Mondo Duplantis captivated a roaring home crowd on Sunday, June 15, as he cleared 6.28 metres at the Wanda Diamond League meet in Stockholm — setting a new world record for the 12th time in his career.

The 25-year-old star shattered his own previous record of 6.27m, set earlier this year in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The feat took place at the iconic 1912 Olympic Stadium, a venue deeply personal to Duplantis, who first competed there as an 11-year-old.

“Full to the brim” with emotion
After clinching victory and sailing over the bar at 6.28m, Duplantis was overcome with emotion.

“I feel full to the brim right now,” he said. “The first time I jumped here, it was rainy and cold, and I cleared just under four metres. I’ve got a lot of family here today. This one means a lot.”

Rising above the competition
Australia’s Kurtis Marschall was the closest contender, managing a best clearance of 5.90m but falling short in his three attempts at six metres. With the competition all but decided, Duplantis turned the focus to history — and delivered with a soaring clearance that brought the stadium to its feet.

Eyes already on 6.30m
Duplantis, now firmly one of the greatest in track and field history, celebrated by ripping off his shirt and embracing loved ones in the stands. The American-born athlete, who represents Sweden internationally, has long been a dominant force in the sport, and earlier this year became just the second person ever to win the Laureus Sportsman of the Year award.

Now with his name set to be etched into the stadium’s walls alongside other greats, Duplantis hinted that he’s far from done.

“There’s not much between me and 6.30m, technically,” he said. “I’m just one perfect day away from it.”

As the cheers echoed through Stockholm, it was clear that the city had witnessed not just another world record, but a hometown hero touching new heights — both literally and emotionally.
