Elon Musk Blasts EU After X Fined €120 Million for Regulatory Breach.
Elon Musk lashed out at the European Union on Saturday following a €120 million ($140 million) fine imposed on his social media platform, X, for violating the bloc’s digital regulations.
Addressing his 230 million followers, Musk called for the EU to be “abolished,” arguing that sovereignty should return to individual nations so governments can better represent their people.
“I mean it. Not kidding,” he added in a follow-up post. “I love Europe, but not the bureaucratic monster that is the EU.”
The fine, issued Friday, is the first enforcement of the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) for content-related violations on a social media platform. The European Commission found X guilty of several infractions, including misleading use of the “blue checkmark” verification system, limited access for researchers to public data, and insufficient transparency in advertising practices.
The ruling highlights the EU’s commitment to holding major tech companies accountable under its stricter regulatory framework. Musk’s remarks drew attention internationally, echoing previous critiques of bureaucratic overreach, including those made by former US President Donald Trump.
The fine against X is part of a broader effort by European regulators to enforce transparency, data access, and content moderation standards across digital platforms.
