Farhan Akhtar has finally addressed the controversy surrounding Don 3 following Ranveer Singh’s abrupt exit, calling the episode a “messy” but valuable learning experience.

Farhan Akhtar reacts to Don 3 fallout, In an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, Farhan reflected on the uncertainty that derailed the much-anticipated third instalment of the franchise. “What I’ve learned is to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted until you actually have it on film,” he said, hinting at the unpredictability of film projects.

Despite the setback, Farhan maintained a philosophical outlook, emphasising that one difficult phase does not overshadow an otherwise fulfilling career. He spoke about his journey since Dil Chahta Hai, recalling collaborations with actors like Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta and Dimple Kapadia, along with producer-partner Ritesh Sidhwani.

“You realise that at some point, there will be a period that’s going to be a little more challenging… you take it in your stride,” he added.

What led to the Don 3 dispute
The controversy began when Ranveer exited Don 3 after months of pre-production. The film, backed by Excel Entertainment, had reportedly already incurred expenses of around ₹40 crore.

Reports suggest that the fallout escalated to the Producers Guild of India, where both Farhan and Ritesh presented their case. The production house maintained that the script had been approved at multiple stages, while Ranveer’s camp claimed delays and shifting priorities led to his decision to step away.

The Guild is understood to have advised both sides to resolve the matter amicably rather than pursue legal action.

Where things stand now
There were reports that Ranveer offered to return his signing amount—reportedly ₹10 crore—and even proposed sharing stakes in a future project as compensation. However, sources close to the production later denied any such agreement, stating that discussions are still ongoing and no final resolution has been reached.

For now, Don 3 remains in limbo, with the situation unresolved and both parties yet to officially confirm the next course of action.
