FIR Against Gurpatwant Pannun for ‘Threatening Unrest’ in Delhi Ahead of Republic Day
Delhi Police’s Special Cell has filed a first information report (FIR) against Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun for allegedly threatening unrest in the capital ahead of Republic Day. The action follows a video released by Pannun claiming that “sleeper cells” had pasted pro-Khalistan posters in Rohini and Dabri, officials said on Friday.
The FIR has been registered under Sections 196 (promoting enmity), 197 (imputations prejudicial to national integration), 152 (acts endangering sovereignty, unity and integrity of India), and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
A police official noted that although Pannun, a US resident, released the video on social media, no such posters were found at the locations mentioned. The video allegedly contained abusive slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and promised a reward of US$111,000 for acts including preventing the PM from hoisting the national flag and placing Khalistan flags on railway tracks in Punjab.
“A FIR has been registered and the matter is under investigation. All claims in the video are being verified, and online platforms are being closely monitored,” a senior police officer said.
The development comes as Delhi Police has strengthened security for the 77th Republic Day celebrations, following multiple terror-related threat inputs. A multi-layered security cordon, including Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, has been deployed across Kartavya Path and the entire New Delhi district.
