The Ministry of Railways on Monday revealed the first visual of India’s proposed bullet train, offering a glimpse into the country’s ambitious high-speed rail project planned between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
The display, installed at Gate Number 4 of the Railway Ministry premises, highlights India’s push to modernise rail transport with advanced technology and faster intercity connectivity. The proposed bullet train is part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, one of the country’s biggest infrastructure projects.
Earlier, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha that the 508-km corridor will pass through Maharashtra, Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The route is planned with 12 stations — Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
Indian Railways said construction work has gathered pace across multiple sections of the corridor. Foundation work has been completed at eight stations in Gujarat, including Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati. In Maharashtra, construction activity is underway at Thane, Virar and Boisar, while excavation work at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station is nearing completion.
The Railways also stated that 17 river bridges have been completed so far. Work is progressing on major bridges across the Narmada, Mahi, Tapti and Sabarmati rivers in Gujarat, while four additional river bridges are under construction in Maharashtra.
At the BKC station site, nearly 91 per cent of excavation work has been completed. Construction of the undersea tunnel section is also advancing, with around 4.8 km already completed between Ghansoli and Shilphata.
According to the Ministry, the MAHSR project is expected to boost indigenous high-speed rail technology under the Make in India initiative. Train sets designed for speeds of up to 280 kmph are being jointly developed by Integral Coach Factory and BEML Limited.
