Heavy rain lashed Bengaluru on Monday, triggering widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruptions to flight operations across the city.
Continuous showers and thunderstorms reduced visibility at the airport, slowing air traffic movement and causing delays in several arrivals and departures. Passengers were advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport and allow extra travel time due to flooded roads and heavy traffic.
Amid deteriorating weather conditions, IndiGo issued a travel advisory cautioning passengers about possible delays at Bengaluru airport.
“Bad weather over Bengaluru has impacted flight schedules. We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly,” the airline said in a statement.
Several parts of the city witnessed flood-like conditions after intense rainfall, with visuals circulating on social media showing submerged roads, stranded vehicles and slow-moving traffic in multiple areas. Residents who stepped out during relatively calm weather in the morning later struggled to return home as rain intensified through the evening.
The Sivananda Circle underpass was among the worst-affected stretches, worsening congestion on the flyover connecting Old Race Course Road and Seshadripuram. Traffic movement slowed considerably across nearby areas as vehicles piled up on key routes.
Long queues of cars, buses and other vehicles were seen stuck on waterlogged roads, while many two-wheeler riders took shelter under flyovers and along roadside stretches to escape the downpour.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in 12 districts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, and urged residents to remain cautious as more showers are expected.
