Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi Walks Out of Assembly, Flags National Anthem and Governance Lapses.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi skipped his customary address to the Assembly on Tuesday, citing that the National Anthem was not played alongside the state anthem at the session’s start.

In a statement, he said, “The National Anthem is yet again insulted, and the Fundamental Constitutional Duty disregarded.”

Key Issues Raised by the Governor

  • Investment Claims Questioned: The Governor disputed the state’s claim of over ₹12 lakh crore in investments, noting that many MOUs remain unimplemented. He highlighted that Tamil Nadu has slipped from being the fourth to the sixth largest recipient of FDI among states.

  • Women’s Safety and Youth Concerns: He pointed to a 55% rise in POCSO cases and a 33% increase in sexual molestation, along with a surge in drug abuse among youths, which he said is being ignored by the government.

  • Dalit Atrocities: Rising crimes, including sexual violence against Dalit women, were highlighted as a major concern.

  • High Suicide Rate: Tamil Nadu reportedly recorded around 20,000 suicides in a year—nearly 65 every day, making it the “Suicide Capital of India.”

  • Education and Local Governance: He noted a decline in education standards, mismanaged institutions, and defunct Village Panchayats due to elections not being held for years, denying citizens grassroots democratic rights.

  • Temple Administration: Thousands of temples remain without Boards of Trustees, contrary to Madras High Court directions on preservation and management.

  • MSME Stress: Local entrepreneurs face high operational costs, forcing many to move businesses out of the state.

The Governor cited these issues—alongside the anthem protocol dispute—as reasons for his dramatic walkout, highlighting concerns over both ceremonial respect and governance failures.
