Govind Namdev Breaks Silence on Dating Rumours with Shivangi Verma, Clarifies Promotional Photo Misunderstanding.

Veteran actor Govind Namdev has responded to dating rumours involving actress Shivangi Verma, who is 30 years his junior, calling the speculation a result of a misinterpreted promotional strategy. The 70-year-old actor clarified that the viral photo that sparked the buzz was part of a planned campaign for their upcoming film, Gaurishankar Goharganj Wale.

Namdev revealed that the idea to portray on-screen chemistry was mutually discussed for promotional purposes. “When the film was in the works, the director, producer, Shivangi and I agreed we needed a strong publicity plan. We had already shot scenes and taken photographs together, including during our morning walks,” he said.

He further claimed that it was Shivangi who pushed for portraying a romantic angle. “She insisted on creating the perception of a romantic pairing and said, ‘Content matters most.’ I agreed, thinking it was all part of building interest. But without consulting me, she tagged the film and circulated those images in a certain way, which led to all the misunderstandings,” he explained.

Namdev admitted that the rumours deeply affected his personal life. “People began speculating, and I wasn’t happy about it. That’s why I eventually stopped speaking to her,” he said.

Addressing rumours that the controversy had impacted his marriage, Namdev clarified:

“There was talk that my wife and I were planning to separate. I didn’t react then, and I don’t feel the need to prove anything now. The truth is visible to those who want to see it.”

On whether he is open to romantic roles at this stage in his career, Namdev said he is comfortable with the idea, provided the role makes sense. “If a script calls for a romantic role, whether opposite an older or similarly aged actress, and it fits the narrative, I’m okay with it.”

Govind Namdev, known for his powerful portrayals in films like Satya, Sarfarosh, Shool, and Bandit Queen, remains a respected figure in the Indian film industry, often seen in complex grey-shaded roles.
