India Likely to Cancel Bangladesh Tour Amid Diplomatic Strain: Sources.

India’s proposed six-match white-ball series in Bangladesh is likely to be called off, sources told India Today, amid escalating diplomatic tensions between the two neighbouring nations. The Indian government has reportedly advised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) against proceeding with the tour.

The bilateral series, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, was scheduled to begin on August 17. It was intended to serve as a key build-up for Team India ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Rising Trade Tensions Behind Decision
Ties between India and Bangladesh have recently come under strain due to trade-related frictions. On May 17, the Indian government imposed new restrictions on imports from Bangladesh — particularly ready-made garments and processed foods — via integrated check posts (ICPs) in the Northeast. This move was widely seen as a retaliatory response to Bangladesh’s earlier import restrictions introduced in April.

“The political situation in Bangladesh is not stable, and in light of the ongoing diplomatic standoff, the Indian government has advised the BCCI not to proceed with the tour,” a top source familiar with the matter told India Today, on condition of anonymity.

An official statement from the BCCI is yet to be released.

Impact on Cricket Calendar
The cancellation of the tour will come as a setback for both cricket boards. For India, the series would have marked their return to T20I action following their 4-1 series win over England earlier this year. It also represented a rare opportunity for white-ball match practice during a Test-heavy calendar.

Currently, the Indian team is in England for a five-match Test series, set to conclude in early August. Their next confirmed assignment after that is a home Test series against the West Indies in October.

The scrapping of the Bangladesh tour would leave a notable gap in India’s white-ball schedule and could also impact Bangladesh’s preparations and finances.
