Indian Sikh Woman Missing in Pakistan Allegedly Converts to Islam, Marries Local.

An Indian Sikh woman has allegedly converted to Islam and married a man in Pakistan, according to a document, days after she went missing from a group of pilgrims visiting the country to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev’s Prakash Parv.

Sarabjit Kaur, 52, a resident of Kapurthala, Punjab, crossed the Wagah-Attari border on November 4 along with 1,992 Sikh pilgrims under a bilateral agreement facilitating religious visits. The group returned to India on November 13 after spending around 10 days in Pakistan, but Kaur was not among them.

A ‘nikahnama’ (Islamic marriage certificate) in Urdu reportedly shows that Kaur married Nasir Hussain, a resident of Sheikhupura near Lahore, and adopted the name Noor. The document has not been independently verified. Kaur was divorced and has two sons with her ex-husband, Karnail Singh, who has lived in England for nearly 30 years.

Records suggest Kaur’s passport was issued in Muktsar, Punjab, but she did not appear in Pakistani immigration records when leaving the country.

Following her failure to return, the Indian Immigration Department informed Punjab Police, which has sent a preliminary report to other agencies. The Indian mission in Pakistan is in touch with authorities there regarding her disappearance, according to government sources cited by IANS.
