Iran Warns of Regional Retaliation After Trump’s Threat to Target Bridges and Power Plants

Iran has issued a fresh warning to the United States, saying it could target bridges and critical infrastructure across the region if Washington follows through on President Donald Trump’s threat to strike Iranian power plants and bridges.

A senior Iranian official told the semi-official Tasnim News Agency that any US attack on Iran’s infrastructure would trigger a strong response aimed at regional facilities linked to American interests.

“If the Americans target an Iranian bridge or power plant, Iran will respond by striking infrastructure and bridges across the region, including energy facilities in which the United States has interests,” the official said.

The official also asserted that Iran had demonstrated its military capabilities over the past several days and warned that any further escalation would have consequences.

Tehran Reaffirms Control Over Strait of Hormuz

Iran reiterated that it would continue to exercise what it described as its sovereign authority over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes. The official said Tehran remained determined to maintain control over the strategic waterway despite mounting international pressure.

The warning came shortly after President Trump declared that the US would retaliate against every Iranian attack on commercial shipping by targeting Iranian bridges or power plants.

US Continues Military Operations

The US military said it carried out a 12th consecutive night of strikes against Iranian targets, describing the operations as part of efforts to reduce Tehran’s ability to threaten international shipping in the region.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi also reiterated Tehran’s position, saying any attack on Iran’s territory or infrastructure would be met with a “powerful and decisive response.”

Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported fresh US missile strikes near Ahvaz, Ramshir and Andimeshk in western Iran.

Officials in Khuzestan Province said emergency and rescue operations were continuing after strikes near the Shalamcheh border crossing, where Iranian media reported casualties and injuries.

Fresh Claims Over Hormuz Shipping

Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had intercepted three oil tankers attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iranian media, one vessel caught fire following an explosion, while the other two reportedly turned back.

The claims have not been independently verified.

The latest exchange of threats underscores the growing tensions between Washington and Tehran, with concerns mounting over the security of the Strait of Hormuz—a vital maritime corridor through which a significant share of the world’s oil supplies passes.
