BJP’s N Ravi Kumar Denies Making Derogatory Remarks Against Karnataka Chief Secretary.
Karnataka BJP MLC N Ravi Kumar has denied making any derogatory comments against the state’s Chief Secretary Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, following a police complaint filed by Congress workers over remarks he allegedly made during a protest at Vidhana Soudha.
In an official statement released on Thursday, Ravi Kumar expressed shock over media reports and video clips suggesting he insulted the senior bureaucrat. “I have not made any derogatory statements against the Honourable Chief Secretary. The reports circulating about me are entirely baseless, misleading, and defamatory,” he stated.
The controversy stems from a BJP protest held on June 30, 2025, at the Gandhi statue in Vidhana Soudha, where the party was demonstrating against the alleged eviction of Dalit families in Kadugodi by the Forest Department.
During the protest, Ravi Kumar was reportedly heard saying, “The Chief Secretary works at night for the state government and all day for the Chief Minister,” in a manner critics called sarcastic and disrespectful. The Congress party filed a complaint with Vidhana Soudha police, accusing him of publicly maligning a senior civil servant.
However, Ravi Kumar strongly refuted the allegations, claiming he was not even present at the event when the alleged remark was made. “I was in Hyderabad for official work for the past three days. I did not address the media or make any such statement during the protest. I simply said that the Chief Secretary was busy with government work,” he clarified.
He also stated that he had attempted to meet both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Chief Secretary Rajneesh to discuss the eviction issue but was informed they were unavailable at the time. In response to the controversy, the Karnataka IAS Officers’ Association reportedly met with the Chief Minister and urged him to take appropriate action against Ravi Kumar, expressing concern over the perceived targeting of senior bureaucrats.
As of now, neither the Chief Secretary’s office nor the Chief Minister has issued a public response.
