Keir Starmer on Monday called for urgent de-escalation in the Middle East after the United Arab Emirates reported fresh attacks, marking the first such incident since a truce was declared nearly a month ago.

“The UK condemns the drone and missile strikes targeting the UAE,” Starmer said in a statement, warning that the situation risked spiralling further.

He urged restraint and called on Iran to engage seriously in negotiations to ensure the ceasefire holds and to work towards a long-term diplomatic resolution.

The UAE, a key US ally in the region, said it was targeted by a barrage of missiles and drones launched from Iran on Monday, raising fresh concerns about stability in the Gulf.
