LSG Seek Home Revival as Pooran, Pant Eye Return to Form vs GT

The Indian Premier League 2026 season is entering a phase where early momentum can define campaigns.

With two wins from three matches, Lucknow Super Giants will be keen to avoid drifting into the mid-table clutter when they face Gujarat Titans at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday, April 12.

Both teams arrive on the back of last-over thrillers. Lucknow found a new finisher in Mukul Choudhary, whose seven sixes powered them past Kolkata Knight Riders. Gujarat, meanwhile, edged out Delhi Capitals in a nail-biter in the capital.

LSG seek answers at home

For Lucknow, the bigger concern lies at home. They are on a five-match losing streak at the Ekana, a venue known for its tricky nature. Their first home outing this season ended in a batting collapse against Delhi, where they were bowled out for 141.

Away from home, they have looked far more assured, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad and KKR. But to stay ahead in the race, they need to turn their home ground into a fortress.

Much of that responsibility rests on captain Rishabh Pant. While he showed glimpses of form with a fluent 68 against Hyderabad, consistency has eluded him. Lucknow will hope their skipper finds rhythm in front of the home crowd.

Pooran under the spotlight

If Pant’s form is a concern, Nicholas Pooran’s struggles are even more glaring. The explosive left-hander has managed just 22 runs in three matches, raising questions about his role in the middle order.

Batting at No. 5, below Pant and Ayush Badoni, Pooran has had limited time to settle. While LSG may persist with the current order, flexibility could be key—especially if openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram provide strong starts.

The emergence of Mukul Choudhary has at least strengthened the middle order. The 21-year-old has already shown his finishing ability and could become a crucial asset as the season progresses.

Titans gain batting momentum

Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, seem to have found their batting rhythm. Captain Shubman Gill looked in control with a 70 against Delhi, while Jos Buttler’s return to form adds firepower at the top.

Washington Sundar’s composed fifty helped stabilise the middle order, while players like Glenn Phillips, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan provide depth.

They also have the option of including Jason Holder, though they may stick with their current combination after a win.

Battle of bowling units

The contest could well be decided by the bowlers. Mohammed Shami versus Mohammed Siraj headlines the pace battle, with both sides boasting strong supporting attacks.

Lucknow will rely on Avesh Khan and Prince Yadav, while Gujarat have the raw pace of Kagiso Rabada and promising quick Ashok Sharma.

In spin, Rashid Khan remains Gujarat’s trump card, though Lucknow’s duo of Digvesh Rathi and M Siddharth could be effective on a responsive surface.

Conditions and team news

Lucknow is expected to witness a hot afternoon with no rain interruptions. A fresh pitch—a mix of red and black soil—will be in use, likely offering a balance between pace and batting.

A key question for LSG remains the return of Mayank Yadav, who is being managed carefully. They could also consider giving George Linde a debut to add depth.

Gujarat Titans are unlikely to make major changes, with their winning combination expected to continue.
