Mukul Dev, former model and versatile actor known for villain roles, dies at 54

Actor Mukul Dev died on Friday due to a brief illness. After his health worsened, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he received treatment. He was 54 and is survived by his brother, Rahul Dev.

Vindu Dara Singh, who worked with Mukul in ‘Son of Sardaar’, confirmed the news of his death to He lamented that Mukul would not be able to see himself on the big screen.

“After his parent’s death, Mukul was keeping to himself. He would not even step out of the house or meet anyone. His health deteriorated in the last few days, and he was in the hospital. My condolences to his brother and everyone who knew and loved him. He was an amazing person, and we will all miss him,” Singh said.

Mukul’s friend and actor Deepshika Nagpal also posted a photo with the late actor on Instagram. Talking to India Today, she shared that Mukul never spoke about his health to anyone. They have a friends group on WhatsApp where they would often talk. “I woke up in the morning to this news. I have been calling his number since then, hoping he would pick up,” she said, getting emotional.

Mukul was known for his work across Hindi and Punjabi films, television serials, and music albums. He also appeared in a few Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu films. For his performance in ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’, he was honoured with the 7th Amrish Puri Award for excellence in acting.

Born in Delhi, the actor started his career on TV with the serial ‘Mumkin’ playing the role of Vijay Pandey in 1996. He also acted in Doordarshan’s ‘Ek Se Badh Kar Ek’, a comedy Bollywood countdown show. He was part of various other films including ‘Qila’ (1998), ‘Wajood’ (1998), ‘Kohram’ (1999) and ‘Mujhe Meri Biwi Se Bachaao’ (2001), among others.
