Multi-storey building collapses near Delhi’s Saket Metro station; several feared trapped under debris

A multi-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Saidullajab area near Saket Metro Station on Saturday evening, triggering a major rescue operation amid fears that several people may be trapped under the debris.

According to officials from the Delhi Fire Services, the fire control room received a distress call at around 7.45 pm reporting the collapse. The caller informed authorities that people were believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.

Five fire tenders, rescue teams and a light rescue vehicle were rushed to the site. Fire officials launched search-and-rescue operations immediately, while additional updates on the number of people trapped or injured were awaited.

“A caller informed us that a multi-storey building had collapsed in Saidullajab near Saket Metro station and that some people were trapped under the debris,” a DFS official said.

A large crowd gathered at the scene as local residents joined fire and police personnel in clearing debris and searching for survivors. Rescue operations were continuing at the time of reporting.
