Navjot Kaur Sidhu Quits Congress, Accuses Punjab Chief of Corruption and Incompetence
Chandigarh: Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Saturday announced her resignation from the party, launching a sharp attack on Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, whom she described as “the most horrific, incapable, corrupt president ever.”
Kaur’s departure comes a month after her suspension from Congress following her controversial remark that “a suitcase of Rs 500 crore” is needed to become chief minister.
In a strongly worded post on X, she accused Warring of compromising the party for personal gains by entering into an understanding with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. She alleged that he targeted her while shielding other leaders who, according to her, worked against her husband, Navjot Singh Sidhu, the former Punjab Congress chief.
“You saved yourself from jail by co-partnering with the Chief Minister to destroy Congress. You sold the party for petty gains with an understanding with AAP,” she wrote, adding that she had evidence against Warring but chose not to use it.
Kaur also criticised the party for inaction against senior leaders like Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Charanjit Singh Channi, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, and Dharamvira Gandhi, claiming they openly challenged Warring while being protected. She further alleged that attempts were made to ensure her electoral defeat by planting candidates in her constituency.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu, elected as MLA from Amritsar East in 2012 on a BJP ticket, later joined Congress and served as chief parliamentary secretary. Her resignation signals growing turbulence in Punjab Congress as the party prepares for upcoming political challenges.
